Elenor Whitney, an ANSEP intern based at KBNERR and supported by the Alaska Ocean Observing System, stands by a Gray Whale that washed ashore on Anchor Point Beach. Elenor supported KBNERR staff in securing the whale to the beach and helped the state vet and partners with the necropsy.

Elenor Whitney is this summer’s Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP) intern supported through the Alaska Ocean Observing System and she is working with Rosie Masui on the Alaska Harmful Algal Bloom Network. Elenor will be with Kachemak Bay Research Reserve until mid-August and is busy helping with field work, analyzing samples, and developing new educational materials on Harmful Algal Blooms. She was able to join the team from the Alaska Veterinary Pathology Service in late June and assist with the gray whale necropsy on Anchor Point Beach.
